After the publication by the independent national electoral commission (CENI) of the list of 82 candidates invalidated for electoral fraud and incitement to violence, the political party Union for the Congolese Nation (UNC) of Vital Kamerhe reacts to this decision.
In a tweet, the secretary general of the UNC, Billy Kambale, asked the CENI to go even further in its approach by sanctioning all those who would be involved in electoral fraud. He urges the commission to discourage these breaches of republican values.
The spokesperson for the president of the UNC, Michel Moto, also reacted by affirming that Vital Kamerhe takes note of the CENI’s decision. He emphasizes that the party, which is based on republican values, dissociates itself from candidates involved in fraud and congratulates the CENI for its vigilance and professionalism.
Among the invalidated candidates are political figures such as Evariste Boshab, Victorine Lwese, Sam Bokolombe, Monalux Pauline, Antoinette Kipulu, Gentiny Ngobila and Charles Mbuta Muntu.
This decision by the CENI marks an important step in the fight against electoral fraud and demonstrates the desire to preserve the integrity of the democratic process in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Political parties, such as the UNC, that commit to condemning fraud and supporting transparent and fair elections help build citizens’ trust in the political system.
It is essential that all stakeholders continue to work together to ensure the credibility of the elections and ensure that the voices of Congolese voters are respected. The fight against electoral fraud is a major challenge for strengthening democracy in the DRC and guaranteeing the representativeness of elected officials.
The path to truly democratic and transparent elections is strewn with pitfalls, but the actions taken by the CENI and the reactions of political parties show that the DRC is resolutely committed to this path. It is essential that all political actors continue to work together to build a solid and legitimate democratic future for the country.
