In a recent operation in Jigawa State, Nigeria, authorities arrested several individuals for stealing livestock, roofing zinc, motorcycles, sheep, goats and a generator. According to the state police spokesperson, DSP Lawan Shiisu, the arrests took place between December 22 and 29, 2023 in Babura, Kiyawa and Suletankarkar LGAs.
One of the suspects, identified as Abdulhadi Saidu, aged 25 and a resident of Gujungu, was arrested with two cows suspected to have been stolen along Kiyawa-Balago road, Kiyawa. During his interrogation, the suspect was unable to give a satisfactory explanation regarding the origin of the cows.
Another suspect, Ibrahim Rabiu, aged 22 and resident of Bakin Kasuwa also in Kiyawa, was arrested in possession of 15 pieces of roofing zinc. During interrogations, the suspect confessed to having stolen the zincs from one of the houses in the area.
In Babura locality, Sagiru Ibrahim, 27, from Makale Insharuwa village, and Zayyanu Umar, 27, from Dugujabe village, were arrested for the alleged theft of a motorcycle. The suspects admitted their guilt, claiming to have plotted and stolen the motorcycle.
In Kazaure LGA, six other suspects were arrested for the alleged theft of two sheep, goats, and a generator. Among them, Ibrahim Haruna, aged 25 and from the village of Tinkim in the Republic of Niger, confessed to his participation in this crime.
These arrests are an example of efforts by local authorities to combat theft and criminal activities that disrupt peace and security in the region. The Jigawa State Police continue to work closely with local communities to identify and apprehend criminals.
