“Electoral revolution in the DRC: Transparency and calm at the heart of the 2023 elections”

The new narrative of the elections in the DRC 2023: Transparency and calm

The presidential, national and provincial legislative elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) are taking place in a different way this year. According to Patrick Muyaya, government spokesperson, the 2023 electoral process is marked by a new dynamic of transparency and calm.

In a press briefing organized at Radiotélévision Nationale Congolaise (RTNC), Patrick Muyaya welcomed the smooth running of the elections. Unlike previous elections, this time there was no internet shutdown, house arrest of opponents or recurring practices. According to the spokesperson, this demonstrates a change in the narrative in the country.

Transparency is one of the aspects highlighted by Patrick Muyaya. He underlines the increased efforts in this area, in particular thanks to the new electoral law which he himself helped to draft. With this in mind, the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) has promised to publish the results polling station by polling station on its website, a first which will strengthen the transparency of the electoral process.

The Congolese authorities consider that the 2023 elections mark a break with the excesses of the past. Despite protests from part of the opposition, they affirm that the country is progressing towards more transparent and democratic elections.

This new dynamic of elections in the DRC is an encouraging sign for democracy and the development of the country. It demonstrates the importance given to transparency and respect for democratic rights. Let us hope that this trend continues and that the DRC continues on the path to more just and equitable governance.
