The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Ivory Coast is already generating excitement among football fans on the continent. But another piece of news adds an important dimension to this major event: RTNC, Radio Télévision Nationale Congolaise, has won the broadcasting rights for this competition.
The Confederation of African Football has awarded the broadcast rights for all its competitions in 46 African countries to New World TV, a pan-African media group based in Togo. New World TV, which recruited Malick Traoré, formerly of Canal+, will be the broadcast manager for CAN 2023.
Among the first national channels to have obtained broadcasting rights, RTNC is already preparing to offer complete coverage of the competition to its Congolese viewers. This partnership will allow football fans in the Democratic Republic of Congo to experience every highlight of the competition, whether matches, player interviews or analyzes from sports experts.
RTNC will not be the only national channel to broadcast CAN 2023. The list also includes Radio Télévision Sénégalaise (RTS), Gabon 1ère, Radiodiffusion Télévision Ivoirienne (RTI), Radiodiffusion Télévision Guinéenne (RTG), Cameroon Radio Television (CRTV), Télé Tchad, the Radio and Television Office of Mali (ORTM), and Télé de Guinée-Bissau (TGB).
In the English-speaking region, the matches will be broadcast on channels such as South African SABC, Zimbabwe’s ZBC, Zambia’s Diamond TV, Gambia’s GRTS, and Kenya’s KBC 1. And for the first time, CAN 2023 will also be broadcast in French-speaking Africa by private television channels, thus providing greater accessibility to football fans.
New World TV has also signed partnerships with mobile operators and other television channels to guarantee accessible broadcasting in all French-speaking African countries. This will allow fans to follow matches live, even if they cannot be in front of their television.
CAN 2023 therefore promises to be a major event for football fans in Africa. The cooperation between RTNC and New World TV will allow more Congolese viewers to experience the excitement of the tournament and support their national team.
