The news often brings us positive news about construction projects that improve people’s lives. Today, we are highlighting the Federal Housing Program in Nigeria, specifically Adamawa State. Bidr Martin-Gyado, the federal housing controller in charge of Adamawa, recently announced that the project was in the finalization phase, with a completion rate of 89%.
This housing program was established with the aim of meeting the growing demand for affordable and accessible housing for Nigerians, especially residents of Adamawa State. So far, 168 houses have been constructed under Phases 1 and 2 of the project, located in Sangere community, Yola South local area. Of these 168 houses, 126 have already been completed, while the remaining 64 will be completed soon.
The Federal Housing Controller also mentioned the ongoing construction of another 22 housing units in Digil, Mubi North Local Area, under Phase 3 of the programme. Once completed, these homes will provide homeownership opportunities through lease-to-own and direct sales-based acquisition models. This will ensure fairness, equality, justice and make homes accessible to all.
The ministry has also sought allocation of 50 hectares of additional land from the state government for construction of additional houses under this scheme. This initiative demonstrates the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing the housing deficit in Nigeria.
Along with this housing programme, the ministry has also planned to improve and modernize infrastructure in 26 slums in the state, as part of its urban renewal policy. Through the intervention of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Ministry’s Special Project Unit, residents of these areas will benefit from the installation of solar street lights, new wells, community halls and electrical transformers.
This project therefore aims to create a lasting impact by improving the quality of life of the population, providing affordable housing and modernizing infrastructure in disadvantaged urban areas. It is also in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, seeking to provide adequate access to decent housing and basic services.
It is encouraging to note that the Federal Government of Nigeria is fully committed to addressing the housing deficit in the country. Through programs like this, more and more Nigerians will have access to affordable, quality housing. This will help improve the economic and social situation of the country as a whole.
