“The challenges of the electoral campaign in Kindu: between excessive generosity and ethical concerns”
The Office of Human Rights Inspectors (BIDH) has issued advice to voters in Kindu (Maniema): to refrain from practicing vote monetization. Crispin Muyololo, coordinator of the BIDH, expressed his concerns about candidates who promise great things during the campaign, only to disappear once elected. He therefore calls on voters to vote thoughtfully, considering the candidates’ abilities to represent the province of Maniema.
Tension is rising as the elections in Kindu approach. The city is in turmoil, with vehicles carrying speakers, generators, even solar panels, crossing the streets. Candidates are multiplying strategies to attract the attention of voters, using campaign songs and even comedians to gain their trust. Meetings and small gift offers are also organized to attract voters.
However, it is important not to be influenced by these practices. The BIDH warns against the risk of selling off one’s voice for donations or money. It is essential to vote thoughtfully, focusing on candidates’ abilities to fulfill their responsibilities at different levels of government.
In the context of the electoral campaign in Kindu, it is also interesting to note the presence of certain presidential candidates who visited the region. Among them, Félix Tshisekedi and Moïse Katumbi went to Kindu to meet voters and promote their political program.
