News: operation to arrest suspects of child crime in France
The judicial police announced that they had carried out a major operation this week, leading to the arrest of 80 men suspected of child abuse in France. This operation, coordinated by the new Juvenile Office of the judicial police, shed light on the diversity of profiles involved in this scourge.
The operation took place in 53 French departments, including two overseas. Among the 80 people arrested, we find a local elected official, two school teachers and a supervisor working in a home for children with disabilities. These varied profiles underline the fact that child crime knows no social or professional boundaries.
During searches carried out at the suspects’ homes, the police discovered more than 100,000 child abuse videos and photos. This content, stored on computers, hard drives and other digital media, revealed extremely violent acts, including sexual abuse of infants and children involved in acts with animals.
This large-scale operation highlights the need to fight against online child crime. The images found during the searches reflect thousands of vulnerable victims who suffered acts of torture and barbarity. Child protection associations are calling for an in-depth investigation to find these victims and recognize them as such during a trial.
It is also crucial to educate parents about protecting their children online. Acts of child crime can be facilitated by the massive posting of images of children online. The authorities therefore invite parents to be extra vigilant and to avoid sharing photos and videos of their children in an indiscriminate manner, in order to prevent any risk of misappropriation by child criminals.
The coordinated operation carried out by the judicial police highlights the extent of the problem of child crime in France. It is necessary to continue to fight against this scourge and raise public awareness about the protection of children on the Internet.
