In a bid to address Nigeria’s security and economic challenges, the Director General of the Department of Security Services (DSS), Yusuf Bichi, has announced that the agency plans to unveil and use weapons manufactured by its personnel.
According to him, this initiative aims to improve the operational efficiency of the agency while contributing to the country’s self-sufficiency in defense matters.
This announcement was made during the graduation ceremony of the 16th session of the Executive Intelligence Management Course (EIMC), held in Abuja, the country’s capital.
He said: “We will soon start deploying the equipment and platforms that we have manufactured ourselves, including unmanned aerial vehicles.
“We manufacture our own weapons and, by the grace of God, when we achieve this, we will spare our country the financial burden of importing such weapons.”
During his remarks, Bichi also highlighted the success of the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS) under the leadership of Mr. Ayodele Adeleke, commending his commitment and professionalism.
“I remember when I appointed Mr. Adeleke as the Commandant of this institute. Today, anyone who visits this institute can testify to the success we have achieved,” he said.
The Director General added that the DSS would continue to support the institute in its mission of imparting knowledge that will enhance security in the country.
He stressed that the DSS elite is also committed to motivating its personnel, focusing on research and development, and providing proactive intelligence to other security agencies.
“I assure other security agencies that the DSS will continue to provide proactive intelligence to conduct operations,” Bichi continued.
He also urged Nigerians to shun those he described as warmongers seeking to set the country on fire, urging them to remain patriotic and use the skills they have acquired to develop the country .
The EIMC 16 course began in February 2023 with 89 participants from 35 agencies in Nigeria and four other African countries.
By the time of graduation, the course had lost three participants, leaving 86 graduates who Bichi asked to apply the lessons learned during the training in their respective fields and future ventures.
The Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, was also present at the event and called for support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to redefine modern leadership and reposition Nigeria.
He stressed the need for improved governance and job creation to address security challenges.
Shettima highlighted Nigeria’s growth potential in his speech.
“It is high time that the greatest black nation on earth wakes up. Once we believe in the Nigerian project and put forth our best efforts to reposition our country, achievements can be made,” he said. declared.

Shettima also warned of potential unintended consequences of calls for secession, calling for careful consideration.
“Those who advocate for the division of this nation or the destabilization of this country often find it difficult to think beyond their immediate concerns,” he warned.
Earlier, the Commander of the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS), Mr. Ayodele Adeleke, described the EIMC 16 program as an important part of national security, covering a wide range of topics.
“It is designed for advanced security management at the highest level and includes topics such as security awareness and intelligence management, among others,” explained Adeleke.
At the end of the event, the 86 participants left armed with new skills, new perspectives and a heightened sense of patriotism, ready to take on the challenges of their respective fields and contribute to the development and security of their country.
