Terrorist attack in Paris: the anti-terrorism prosecution opens an investigation

A terrorist attack took place on Saturday evening in Paris, near the Eiffel Tower, causing the death of a German tourist and injuring two other people. The anti-terrorism prosecution took up the investigation and opened proceedings for assassination and attempted assassination in connection with a terrorist enterprise.

The attacker, a 26-year-old Frenchman, was already known to the police for his links with radical Islamism. In 2016, he was convicted for his involvement in a planned attack. This new attack raises many questions about the surveillance of radicalized individuals and the prevention measures put in place.

Following this attack, a security meeting was held in Matignon in the presence of Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne and the Ministers of the Interior, Justice and Health. The authorities are seeking in particular to strengthen the means of prevention and monitoring of radicalized individuals suffering from psychiatric disorders, in order to prevent further acts of violence.

This attack once again serves as a reminder of the vigilance that must be maintained in the face of the terrorist threat. Authorities continue to work to ensure the safety of citizens and combat violent extremism.
