“Electoral campaign in the DRC: The candidates are mobilizing two weeks before the vote”

News: Candidates in the middle of the electoral campaign, two weeks before the vote

2023-12-04 – Candidates for the presidency of the Republic, national and provincial deputies have only two weeks left to convince voters to grant them their vote. As for the candidates for the municipal elections, their campaign begins this Monday, December 4 and will only last two weeks.

According to the electoral calendar established by the Independent National Electoral Commission (Ceni), the electoral campaign will end on December 18, 2023. This final stretch before the vote could be eventful with the arrival of candidates for the municipal elections.

During the first two weeks of the campaign, little enthusiasm was felt across the country. Some presidential candidates, such as Félix Tshisekedi, Moïse Katumbi and Martin Fayulu, were barely visible, their posters being almost non-existent. Other candidates for deputy, due to lack of resources, prefer to wait until the last week to go out into the field, in order to capitalize on financial resources and effectively reach their target.

Of the 26 candidates for the presidency of the Republic validated by the Constitutional Court, only 22 are still in the running two weeks before the end of the electoral campaign. Indeed, four decided to withdraw from the race and gave their support to the opponent Moïse Katumbi. They are Franck Diongo, Matata Ponyo, Seth Kikuni and Delly Sessanga. According to indiscretions, other surprises could still occur between now and December 20, the day of the vote.

This electoral campaign is therefore crucial for candidates, who must demonstrate persuasion, commitment and determination to convince voters of their political project. In a country where democracy is evolving, every vote counts and could change the destiny of the nation.
