Financial authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo have recently mobilized nearly one thousand five hundred billion Congolese francs, according to the Central Bank of Congo. This information raises questions about the government’s management and use of these funds.
The multiplicity of services and the overtaxation of artisanal mineral exploitation activities are subjects that concern stakeholders. They seek to harmonize their views and establish a list of illegal payments in order to put in place a strategy for the application of legal payments.
Tiber Dunia, program manager at the Observatory of Governance and Peace (OGP), suggests deepening this discussion. He stresses the importance of putting an end to illegal practices that harm the country’s economy and deprive the government of legitimate financial resources.
In a context where transparency and good governance are crucial issues, it is essential to find solutions to fight corruption and promote responsible use of public funds. This requires close collaboration between financial authorities, economic players and civil society.
At the same time, it is also important to support artisanal mining of minerals in a legal and sustainable manner. This activity represents a source of income for many communities, but it must be regulated to guarantee respect for the environment and workers’ rights.
In the end, the mobilization of one thousand five hundred billion Congolese francs by the financial authorities is an impressive figure. However, it is crucial to ensure that these funds are used transparently and truly benefit the economic and social development of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
