The 2024 edition of the famous Pirelli calendar reveals an impressive list of stars posing there. This year, Ghanaian visual artist Prince Gyasi was chosen to photograph the personalities featured in this long-awaited edition.
Entitled “Timeless”, the calendar highlights people who inspired the artist in his artistic approach. Gyasi explains that his selection was made instinctively, drawing on his childhood memories and taking inspiration from personalities he admired on television or whose work he listened to.
Angela Bassett, a renowned actress, says she was surprised and delighted to be chosen to appear in the calendar. As an art lover, she was already well aware of the importance of this publication and was very enthusiastic about participating in it. The fact that the calendar is photographed by a young black African photographer and features a cast of black stars represents a real source of satisfaction for her.
Other personalities also part of this prestigious calendar include supermodel Naomi Campbell, actors/musicians Idris Elba, Tiwa Savage and Teyana Taylor, artist Amoako Boafo, former football player Marcus Desailly and Ghanaian royalty, His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The 2024 Pirelli calendar was photographed in both Ghana and the United Kingdom by Prince Gyasi, who also appears in the images in two different guises, as himself and as a child, played by a young actor.
This calendar represents great significance to Jeymes Samuel, director of the film “The Book of Clarence” and close friend of Gyasi. For him, this edition marks a turning point in the history of the Pirelli calendar, showing excellence on a broader scale thanks to the diversity of artists represented and environments created by Gyasi.
Since its first publication in 1964, the Pirelli Calendar has been recognized for its high-end artistic aesthetic and for showcasing some of the world’s biggest stars. This 2024 edition promises to be a true artistic and cultural event not to be missed.
