“Abraham Aggrey Ngalasi: A pastor launches into the race for president of the DRC with a divine vision”

“Abraham Aggrey Ngalasi, a man of the church, is launching the race for the presidency of the Democratic Republic of Congo. In a recent interview with Okapi, he declares having been mandated by God himself to run for this position and believes that God wishes to use the DRC as an instrument, like Israel.

Pastor Aggrey Ngalasi, head of the Christian Assembly La Louange in Kinshasa, affirms that God wishes to rebuild the colonial and neocolonial system in order to guarantee the autonomy of the country. According to him, the church thus has an essential role to play in raising Congolese awareness of patriotism and love of neighbor.

Aggrey Ngalasi, who was national president and legal representative of the Charismatic Renewal in Congo, is a man with a rich background. Born in Kimpese in 1954, he did his primary education in Kinzambi/Kikwit and his secondary education at INFRA in Kikwit. He graduated in medicine from the University of Kinshasa.

His candidacy for the presidential election in December 2023 is already generating many reactions. While some see him as a messenger of God and hope for renewal for the country, others question the place of religion in politics and the skills required to lead a country.

Either way, this candidacy raises interesting questions about the role of spirituality and faith in public life. If elections in the DRC are often marked by political and economic issues, Aggrey Ngalasi brings a spiritual dimension to the presidential race.

It remains to be seen how this candidacy will be perceived by the Congolese population and what the reactions of the other presidential candidates will be. Whatever happens, Abraham Aggrey Ngalasi intends to make his faith a pillar of his politics and thus hopes to bring positive change to the DRC.”
