MC Oluomo re-elected as head of the National Union of Truck Drivers and Transport Workers in Lagos: A victory for leadership and reforms.

On November 30, 2023, MC Oluomo was re-elected as leader of the Lagos National Union of Truck Drivers and Transport Workers, during the 10th Quadrennial State Delegates Congress. This election took place at the union headquarters in the Agege region. MC Oluomo, accompanied by Alhaji Sulyman Ojora as Vice President and Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle (Sego) as Treasurer, as well as 28 other executive members, was elected unopposed.

The inauguration ceremony was led by Adejare Kembi, Director of Excel Practitioners, in the presence of several dignitaries including the Acting National President, Alhaji Aliyu Issa Ore, former National Secretary Kabiru Ado Yau and officials of the Federal Ministry of Labor and Employment.

In his acceptance speech, MC Oluomo expressed gratitude to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the national organ of the union and other stakeholders for their support during difficult times. He particularly praised the loyalty and perseverance of the union members in the state.

MC Oluomo vowed to provide more assistance to members of the union and affirmed his commitment to continue the reform policies that have had a positive impact on the activities of the union in the state.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, represented by a director of the state Ministry of Transportation, Lateef Tiamiyu, welcomed the re-election of MC Oluomo, praising his leadership qualities and transformational initiatives in the union.

The governor urged union members to comply with government policies and reject violence, saying the days of violent leadership changes were over.

Eshomounu Itemoagbo, Comptroller of the Federal Ministry of Labor and Employment, Lagos office, described MC Oluomo as a leader in the right direction. He commended the employment of over 123 graduates in various units of the union by MC Oluomo and assured continued partnership to promote employment in the union.

This re-election of MC Oluomo marks an important moment in the evolution of the union and demonstrates the confidence placed in his leadership. The reforms undertaken by MC Oluomo have already brought positive results to union members, and this re-election ensures continuity in the implementation of these policies.

The union remains a key player in the transport sector in Lagos, and with MC Oluomo at its helm, further measures and initiatives can be expected to improve the working conditions of truck drivers and transport workers.
