“Awareness campaign on airport fees in the DRC: understand everything about the “Go pass” and its issues”

Launch of the awareness campaign on the “Go pass” airport fee in the Democratic Republic of Congo

The NGO Multisectoral Popularization and Awareness Program (PMVS) recently launched an awareness campaign on the “Go pass” airport fee in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This tax, considered by some as an “airport scam”, has sparked numerous complaints from the population and national and international travelers.

Anxious to clarify the management of this fund at the level of the Airways Authority (RVA), the PMVS coordinator, Ludovic Kalengayi, and his team are committed to leading a citizen awareness campaign. They wish to provide a better understanding of the airport fee and its use.

As part of this campaign, the PMVS plans to train “Go Pass” ambassadors who will be responsible for raising awareness among the population on the management of this fund. The training of ambassadors will focus on mastering the concepts of fees and taxes, as well as on the awareness-raising mechanisms to be put in place to inform public opinion of the progress and projects financed by the “Go pass”.

The objective of this campaign is twofold: on the one hand, to clarify the management of the airport fee and to highlight the investments made thanks to this fund, such as the maintenance of airport infrastructure. On the other hand, fight against fraud and the practices of incorporating this tax into travel agency tickets.

The PMVS also proposed to the RVA to migrate towards the digitalization of the issuance of the airport fee in order to improve the traceability of funds and strengthen aviation security. However, some companies fear that this digitalization will lead to higher ticket prices.

Ultimately, the PMVS plays a mediating role between the RVA and the population, ensuring communication, popularization and explanation of issues related to the “Go pass”. The awareness campaign aims to inform the public, promote transparency and ensure optimal use of financial resources for the development and security of airports in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
