President candidate Tshisekedi announced during a campaign rally in Bunia, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, that the UN Mission (MONUSCO) would soon smoothly withdraw from the Ituri region. He called on the population to show calm and express their gratitude to MONUSCO, affirming that their presence was intended to help the country.
Tshisekedi also stressed the importance of unity among Ituri communities to ensure lasting peace in the region. He encouraged residents to vote massively in favor in order to continue the reconstruction work undertaken for the development of the country.
The presidential candidate also addressed the problems of shortage of electricity and drinking water in Bunia, affirming that these issues were taken into account in the Local Development Program of the 145 territories (PDL-145T).
Tshisekedi also congratulated the inhabitants of Ituri for their commitment to integrating the armed forces in order to face the region’s security challenges. He promised to work for the development of the province once peace was restored.
Candidate No. 20, accompanied by first lady Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi, plans to go to the territories of Mahagi and Aru, borders with Uganda, for a visit on Thursday. Before his stop in Bunia, he also paid a visit to Bumba, thus closing his electoral campaign in the Equator Area.
