The electoral campaign for next December’s elections has started in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). However, in certain regions of the country, such as the territory of Walikale in North Kivu, the atmosphere of the electoral campaign is far from being there.
National deputy candidate Prince Kihangi expressed his concern about the lack of financial, communication, logistical and security resources which prevent the population of Walikale from fully experiencing this electoral campaign. He explains that the province of North Kivu is plagued by insecurity because of recurring fighting between the different armed factions, which creates a climate of gloom and uncertainty.
In addition, the difficulties of traveling in the region, due to the lack of road infrastructure, also make the task more difficult for candidates who struggle to reach their voters. This situation harms the free circulation of ideas and messages from candidates and thus compromises the transparency of the electoral process.
Prince Kihangi highlights the importance of addressing these issues to ensure fair, open and democratic elections. It calls for better security in regions affected by conflicts, the construction of adequate road infrastructure and a sufficient allocation of financial resources to allow candidates to conduct a fair electoral campaign.
The situation described by Prince Kihangi highlights the challenges faced by candidates and the population in certain regions of the DRC during this electoral period. This also highlights the importance of paying particular attention to security, accessibility and fairness in the organization of elections, in order to guarantee Congolese citizens the right to actively participate in the political life of their country.
Despite these obstacles, it is essential to remember that every vote counts and that each candidate has the responsibility to best represent the interests of their constituency and to contribute to building a better future for the DRC.
