“Withdrawal of Tim Scott: Donald Trump in pole position for the Republican nomination”

After the withdrawal of former Vice President Mike Pence from the race for the Republican nomination for the 2024 presidential election, another candidate is throwing in the towel. This is US Senator Tim Scott, who announced on Sunday that he was ending his campaign. This decision leaves the way clear for Donald Trump to obtain the Republican nomination.

Tim Scott, elected from South Carolina, hoped to become the first black Republican president in United States history. However, despite his Christian faith and conservative values, his campaign failed to take off and he failed to position himself among the main Republican contenders.

In the polls, Tim Scott was credited with sixth place for the Republican nomination, with only 2.5% support according to the average of the latest polls. Faced with this observation, he decided to end his campaign, explaining that the voters had sent him a clear message.

With the withdrawal of Tim Scott, Donald Trump finds himself in pole position to obtain the Republican nomination. Despite the controversies and indictments he faces, the former president remains the favorite in the polls, with 58% support among Republicans. His notable absence during the Republicans’ third televised debate only strengthened his position.

This withdrawal follows that of Mike Pence, former vice-president of the United States, who also abandoned the race for the Republican nomination at the end of October. Tim Scott also affirmed that he did not intend to support another candidate for the moment, also excluding the possibility of being a running mate in the 2024 presidential election.

One year before the presidential election, polls place Donald Trump at the top of voting intentions, not only within his own party, but also in key states against Joe Biden, the current Democratic president.

All that remains is to observe how the rest of the race for the Republican nomination will take shape and whether other candidates will withdraw to leave Donald Trump alone in the running. The 2024 presidential election is already shaping up to be a major political event, with a major challenge for the Republican Party: regaining the White House or consolidating the position of the Democrats.
