“The First Lady of the DRC and the Special Envoy of the African Union highlight the importance of women’s leadership in Africa”

There is no shortage of meetings between notable personalities on the international scene. This time, it was between Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi, First Lady of the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Bineta Diop, Special Envoy of the President of the African Union Commission, that an exchange meeting was held. During this meeting, the two women discussed the achievements of the Congolese First Lady, particularly in the field of health.

Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi has indeed demonstrated a strong commitment to the care of sickle cell patients, a serious illness which impacts the lives of women in particular. Her fight against violence against women, through the Fonarev initiative, was also praised by Bineta Diop.

The Special Envoy of the African Union even suggested that this model be replicated in other African countries, thus emphasizing the importance of the engagement of First Ladies in concrete and beneficial actions for their respective countries.

Furthermore, Bineta Diop also highlighted the commitment of Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi within the OPDAD (Organization of African First Ladies for Development). She welcomed the initiatives of the First Ladies of Africa and called for greater representation of women at the negotiating table, in order to guarantee lasting peace.

Congolese women, according to Bineta Diop, must participate in greater numbers in decision-making, whether at the political level or in other areas. To do this, she called on Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi to take initiatives with political parties and the President of the Republic to promote greater representation of women.

This meeting between Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi and Bineta Diop highlights the importance of the role of women in development and decision-making in Africa. Their discussions highlighted the efforts of the Congolese First Lady in the fight against gender inequalities and the promotion of health, while calling for greater participation of women in decision-making processes.
