An official complaint has just been filed against the governor of the Kasai-Central province, Patrick Matthias Kabeya Matshi, by the legal advisor to the presidential candidate of the Republic Martin Fayulu and the Lamuka coalition. This complaint denounces tribalism, the attack on the rights of individuals and attempted murder.
Governor Patrick Matthias Kabeya Matshi was previously governor of Kasai Oriental province, but was ousted due to embezzlement. According to the complaint, he is accused of inciting tribal hatred and political-ethnic discrimination. Lamuka/Fayulu also claims that the governor is calling into question the free movement of presidential candidates from the political opposition in the Kasai province.
The complaint follows an attack on Martin Fayulu’s procession upon its arrival in Tshikapa, the capital of Kasai. According to those close to Lamuka, this attack is due to comments made by Governor Patrick Matthias Kabeya Matshi, affirming that the province of Kasaï-Central is reserved for a single candidate, Félix Tshisekedi.
Lamuka/Fayulu therefore denounces acts of violence and the calling into question of peaceful coexistence and national unity. The complaint was filed with the Attorney General at the Court of Cassation.
These events raise questions about freedom of expression and democracy in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Political and ethnic tensions persist and compromise the stability of the country. It is essential to promote respect for the rights of each individual and foster inclusive dialogue to ensure a peaceful and equitable political transition.
It is unfortunate that politics is used to divide and fuel conflict. Instead, leaders and political actors must work together to build a better future for all Congolese, with an emphasis on the unity and development of the country.
The Democratic Republic of Congo has enormous potential to progress economically, socially and politically, but this requires a strong commitment to justice, transparency and democracy. By denouncing acts of discrimination and violence, we can hope for a future where all people in the country can live in peace and harmony.
