“Impending strike by Irumu teachers: An essential mobilization for the improvement of working conditions and remuneration in education”

The inter-union of teachers in the Irumu territory, made up of the synergy of teachers of Catholic schools (SYNECAT) and the synergy of teachers of Protestant schools (SYNEP), recently announced its intention to launch a strike from Monday 13 november. In a letter addressed to the provincial director of EPST Ituri 1, the inter-union recalls its demands, in particular the payment of salaries for the month of September which have still not been paid to Irumu teachers.

This worrying situation comes after another teachers’ strike at the start of the school year, which also aimed to demand payment of salaries for August and September. Despite the steps taken, Irumu teachers continue to face very precarious living conditions, which has led to the escalation of their demands and the threat of an indefinite strike.

This inter-union mobilization highlights the difficulties faced by Irumu teachers and underlines the importance of improving the working conditions and remuneration of these education professionals. While teachers from other entities have already received their salaries, it is essential to find a quick and fair solution to meet the legitimate demands of Irumu teachers.

This situation also raises broader questions about the education system in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the need for profound reform to ensure quality education for all. Education is an essential pillar of development in every society, and it is crucial to support and invest in teachers to create an environment conducive to student learning and growth.

In conclusion, the impending strike by Irumu teachers highlights the difficulties they face and highlights the need for improved working conditions and pay in the education sector. It is essential to find rapid and equitable solutions to respond to the demands of teachers and guarantee quality education for all in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
