In the mining sector in the DRC, women are called upon to diversify their sources of income and turn to entrepreneurship. A 5-day training course began in Lubumbashi, the capital of Haut-Katanga province, with the aim of promoting the empowerment of women and encouraging them to develop other economic activities outside of mining.
This training, organized by the Women Mining DRC, aims to provide women with practical tools and theoretical knowledge in entrepreneurship. During the first two days, participants will have the opportunity to put their entrepreneurial skills into practice, while the following three days will be reserved for theoretical sessions on the different facets of business creation and management.
The objective of this initiative is to enable women in the mining sector to have alternative sources of income and to face the challenges they face on a daily basis. By diversifying their activities, they will not only be able to ensure their own financial autonomy, but also support their greatest responsibility, their families.
The Women Mining DRC is a national platform that brings together different components, such as women from civil society, women from local communities affected by mining activities, those working in mining administration and those working in the mining industry. This diversity of profiles allows for a global and inclusive approach to promoting the empowerment of women in the mining sector.
Beyond entrepreneurial training, the Women Mining DRC also wants to show women the different opportunities that exist in sectors such as catering, food preservation and processing. It’s about opening up new perspectives for them and encouraging them to explore areas that match their skills and interests.
By encouraging women in the mining sector to invest in entrepreneurship, this initiative will not only contribute to their financial empowerment, but also to their strengthening as economic actors. By diversifying their sources of income, they will become models for other women and will be able to actively participate in the socio-economic development of their community.
This 5-day training is therefore an important step in the career of women working in the mining sector in the DRC. It offers them the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to launch into entrepreneurship and become key players in their own economic success.
