“Behind your mask: Henri Dikongué and Diklau, an artistic duo who create universal songs”

Henri Dikongué and Diklau, an artistic duo who seeks to create universal songs

Henri Dikongué, renowned Cameroonian singer and guitarist, joins forces with his wife Diklau for his sixth album entitled “Derrière ton masque”. This musical project marks something new for the couple since it is the first time that they have worked together on the entire creation, from the musical composition to the writing of the texts.

Diklau, also an actress, had already collaborated with Henri Dikongué on some of her songs in French, in order to make them more accessible to a wider audience. But this time, she decided to show her own productions to her husband, without immediately revealing their origin to him. This is how the pieces “Little Brother” and “Pass Time” were born, without Henri Dikongué immediately knowing that they were by his own wife.

This discovery was the starting point of a new artistic adventure for the couple. Together, they created the album “Behind your mask”, which pays tribute to personalities who inspired them. They also wanted to give a universal dimension to their songs, by incorporating choruses in Spanish or English, as well as exploring various vocal styles, such as rap with the participation of rapper José Shungu on the title “Pass time”.

On a musical level, Henri Dikongué chose to give more space to the piano, in addition to his favorite guitar. The album was designed to capture the energy and closeness of a live concert, bringing most of the musicians together in the studio. This highlights the qualities as a melodist of Henri Dikongué, who is celebrating his 25th career this year through concerts in the Republic of Cameroon.

The couple claims an artisanal approach in the creation of this album, testifying to their meticulousness and their demands towards themselves and towards the other musicians involved. Above all, they seek to ensure that each artist can bring their soul to music, in a spirit of sharing and creativity.

With “Derrière ton masque”, Henri Dikongué and Diklau embark on a quest for universal songs, nourished by their personal experiences and inspirations. This album promises to be a musical journey rich in emotions, where everyone will be able to appropriate the songs through their own experiences.
