Bwakadi, Ituri province, was the scene of a terrorist attack which claimed the lives of two civilians and injured another. Armed men, linked to the Ugandan Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), entered the village on the evening of Sunday, November 5, leaving destruction in their wake.
According to Jacques Bandingama, president of the Local Youth Council of the Banyali-Tchabi chiefdom, the attackers burst in around 5:30 p.m. and tied up two people, who were then shot and killed. A third person was injured while trying to retrieve their child, left at home at the time of the attack.
This tragic attack comes after the recent return of residents to the region, following military operations carried out against the ADF jihadists and their supporters. Despite the strengthening of security measures, the terrorist threat persists, and this incursion leaves a real feeling of insecurity among the inhabitants.
The situation in the DRC is complex and volatile, with many security challenges to overcome. The authorities are called on to further strengthen security measures in the Ituri region, in order to protect the population and prevent further terrorist attacks.
The consequences of this attack are not limited only to human losses. Jacques Bandingama also reports the systematic looting of a store during the attack. These acts of violence and looting have a considerable economic and social impact on local communities, which are already facing many difficulties.
It is essential that the Congolese authorities take immediate measures to strengthen security in the Ituri region and continue operations aimed at eradicating the terrorist threat. In addition, efforts must be made to support communities affected by these attacks, by providing them with economic and social assistance to rebuild.
The security situation in the DRC remains worrying, and it is crucial that the authorities and the international community work together to end the violence and provide a secure and stable future for Congolese citizens.
