“Abortive escape in Guinea: the underside of a plot revealed”

The abortive escape of Moussa Dadis Camara and several other prisoners shook Guinea this weekend. While these individuals had spectacularly escaped with the help of an armed commando, they were quickly caught by the Guinean authorities. However, one of the escapees, Colonel Claude Pivi, remains untraceable to this day.

According to the spokesperson for the Guinean government, Ousmane Gaoual Diallo, it is obvious that these people benefited from internal complicity in trying to escape. Indeed, the current investigation reveals a link between the commando who carried out the operation and the son of Colonel Claude Pivi, a soldier also accused. It seems that this commando was specifically prepared and trained to orchestrate this escape.

According to Ousmane Gaoual Diallo, it is difficult to say whether the escapees were kidnapped or whether they participated voluntarily in this escape attempt. However, he emphasizes that these individuals were all linked by the accusation of the massacre of September 28, 2009, which raises questions about the motivations for their flight.

This failed escape is of capital importance in the context of the September 28 trial. It is crucial that the continuation of the trial takes place in a climate of serenity and security in order to facilitate the reconstruction and reconciliation of the country. The Guinean authorities are therefore doing everything they can to strengthen the security of the accused and witnesses, in order to ensure a fair and transparent trial.

Guinea must confront its tragic history and reconcile itself in order to move forward. This is why the continuation of the September 28 trial is of major importance for the country, but also for Africa as a whole.
