Incubation of young people in agribusiness in the DRC: an opportunity for economic development and youth employment

Incubating young people in agribusiness: a development lever in the Democratic Republic of Congo

As part of the Youth Entrepreneurship in Agriculture and Agribusiness Project (PEJAB), the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) has launched an initiative to incubate young men and women in agribusiness. This project aims to train and support 300 young higher-level graduates in their entrepreneurial journey in the agricultural sector.

The three incubation centers, located in Kinshasa, Kisangani and Bukavu, will offer participants technical and managerial training in agribusiness. The objective is to prepare them to create and manage profitable businesses integrated into promising agropastoral sectors.

This IITA initiative comes at the right time in a country like the Democratic Republic of Congo, where agriculture has enormous development potential, but often faces challenges related to lack of skills and weak market integration. . By offering targeted training and professional supervision, the incubation of young people in agribusiness contributes to strengthening the agricultural sector and creating new economic opportunities for Congolese youth.

The choice of incubation centers in key cities across the country also helps maximize the impact of this initiative. Kinshasa, as the capital, offers a business-friendly environment and a large consumer base. Kisangani, located in the eastern region, is known for its agricultural potential and export opportunities. As for Bukavu, in the east of the country, it represents a fertile and strategic agricultural region.

Incubating young people in agribusiness thus offers an alternative and promising path to young Congolese graduates, allowing them to put their skills into practice and contribute to the economic development of the country. By encouraging entrepreneurship in the agricultural sector, this initiative also contributes to job creation, poverty reduction and food security.

In conclusion, the incubation of young people in agribusiness in the Democratic Republic of Congo is an innovative and relevant initiative to promote the development of the agricultural sector and create opportunities for Congolese youth. By training and supporting young entrepreneurs, this initiative contributes to strengthening the agricultural sector, creating sustainable jobs and meeting the challenges facing Congolese agriculture.
