“Horror in the DRC: Lifeless bodies found after a rebel attack”

News: Dead bodies discovered after rebel militia attack

In a remote village in the territory of Mambasa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, villagers made a macabre discovery last Thursday. The dead bodies of people taken hostage by the Ugandan rebel militia of the ADF (Allied Democratic Forces) were found in the village of Apetineko.

The rebel attack took place on October 31, spreading terror among the local population. Residents of the region, particularly in the localities of Mayuwano and Bango, live in constant fear of the ADF, which operates with complete impunity in the surrounding forests.

According to John Vuleveryo, former coordinator of Congolese civil society in the Mambasa region, psychosis has reigned in the region since the rebel incursion. The inhabitants are taken hostage, in particular the farmers, whose fate is unknown. The recently discovered bodies bear witness to the violence with which the ADF treats its victims.

Faced with this situation of growing insecurity, it is imperative that the authorities make additional efforts to protect vulnerable localities. The presence of the military in the region is necessary to guarantee the security of residents and put an end to the impunity enjoyed by the ADF.

This new tragic event once again raises the question of persistent insecurity in certain regions of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Efforts must be redoubled to combat armed groups and guarantee the security of local populations. Cooperation between Congolese security forces and international forces, such as the East African Force (EAC), is essential to ending violence and establishing peace in the region.

It is time for concrete measures to be taken to protect civilians and bring to justice those responsible for these heinous acts. Peace and stability are the foundations of sustainable development and a secure life for all inhabitants of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
