Contingency plan during the electoral period in the Democratic Republic of Congo
The Democratic Republic of Congo is preparing to face possible disasters during the electoral period thanks to a contingency plan put in place by the government. This plan aims to ensure a rapid and effective humanitarian response when needed.
The Minister of Public Health, Hygiene and Prevention, Roger Kamba, presented this plan during the one hundred and seventeenth meeting of the Council of Ministers. He stressed the importance of anticipating needs during this period, particularly due to multiple rains and the risk of flooding.
To do this, strategic sites have been identified in different regions of the country. The Goma Pool will cover the provinces of North Kivu, Maniema and South Kivu, the Bunia Pool will be responsible for Grande Orientale (Bas-Uélé, Haut-Uélé, Ituri and Tshopo), the Kananga Pool will take care of needs of the Grand Kasaï area, the Lubumbashi Pool will take care of the needs of the Greater Katanga area, and finally, the Kinshasa Pool will concentrate the needs of the city of Kinshasa, Kongo-Central and the Grand area. The minister also underlined the importance of financial resources to ensure the implementation of the contingency plan. Resource mobilization mechanisms, such as grants, will be used to finance disaster risk reduction and humanitarian assistance.
