“Violence in sport: the attack on the OL bus during the match against OM scandalizes and calls out”

Violence in sport is an unfortunately recurring phenomenon. And this recent incident during the match between Olympique de Marseille (OM) and Olympique Lyonnais (OL) is a sad example. Indeed, the OL bus was stoned before the match, which led to injuries for coach Fabio Grosso and supporters.

These acts of violence are unacceptable and in no way reflect the values of sport. The competent authorities quickly took up the matter and have already arrested nine people, including two for throwing objects at buses. Those responsible will be severely punished according to the Minister of Sports, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra.

It is important to emphasize that this incident had direct consequences on the progress of the match. In fact, Olympique Lyonnais decided not to participate in the meeting, which led to its cancellation. The final decision on the fate of this match will be made by the LFP Competitions Commission.

Coach Fabio Grosso was injured in the left eyelid when the bus was crushed. Revolting images are circulating, showing the coach’s bloodied face, testifying to the intensity of the attack. He suffers from multiple traumas and his state of health is worrying.

OL announced its intention to file a complaint following these incidents. Lyon supporters were not spared either, with buses attacked and people injured. This stone-breaking is a real affront to football and sport in general.

It is essential to put an end to these acts of violence in the world of sport. Rigorous measures must be taken to identify the perpetrators of these acts and punish them severely. Awareness around fair play and mutual respect must also be strengthened, in order to recreate a healthy and secure environment for players and supporters. Sport is meant to unite and inspire, and it is essential to restore these values in all aspects of sporting practice.
