Title: New SDF President Joshua Osih ready to take on opposition challenges
Introduction :
The tenth ordinary congress of the Social Democratic Front (SDF) was recently held in Yaoundé and elected a new president for this opposition political formation. Joshua Osih, MP and favorite, therefore succeeds Ni John Fru Ndi, founder of the party. In this article, we will highlight the speech and ambitions of Joshua Osih, as well as his positioning on the question of a single opposition candidacy for the next presidential election.
Joshua Osih’s priorities:
Despite a certain loss of electoral weight and influence, Joshua Osih refuses to speak of a loss of momentum for the SDF. He emphasizes that the electoral results were penalized by particular circumstances, in particular canceled elections in conflict zones. He says he is optimistic about the future of the party and is counting on the enthusiasm of members during the congress as well as during the funeral of Ni John Fru Ndi to demonstrate the vitality of the SDF.
Reform of the Electoral Code:
Joshua Osih is part of a platform bringing together other opposition parties, such as the MRC and the PCRN, which are advocating for a reform of the Electoral Code before the next presidential election in 2025. He considers that this approach is essential to guarantee fair and transparent elections in Cameroon. However, he specifies that for the moment, an opposition coalition is not on the agenda. The SDF first wants to focus on the idea of an alternative and propose a social democratic agenda for the country.
Possible participation in the unity government:
Asked about a possible participation of the SDF in a unity government with the CPDM, the party in power for many years, Joshua Osih expressed his reservations. He believes that the CPDM already has an obese majority which is only squandering the country’s resources, and the SDF therefore prefers to position itself on the side of solutions rather than joining a problem.
Conclusion :
Joshua Osih, new president of the SDF, presents himself as an optimistic leader determined to face the challenges of the opposition in Cameroon. Despite a loss of electoral weight, he believes in the party’s ability to win a presidential election and bring political change to the country. While the opposition seeks ways of collaboration, Joshua Osih emphasizes the reform of the Electoral Code and the establishment of a social-democratic agenda for the well-being of the Cameroonian people.
