“The Manono Lithium project in DR Congo faces major obstacles: hope for a resolution with new management”

DR Congo is a country rich in natural resources, and one of the most promising projects is that of Manono Lithium. However, the latest developments raise doubts about the progress of this project.

In a recent public announcement, AVZ Minerals said the Memorandum of Understanding with the DR Congo government for the Manono Lithium project is moving forward. However, this claim turns out to be false and the government is frustrated with AVZ’s chief executive, Nigel Fergusson, and the company’s current management.

Indeed, AVZ Minerals’ current management has been in place for 6 years, which has given them ample time to anticipate and resolve disputes with their DATHCOM joint venture partners. Unfortunately, they refused to do so.

The government of DR Congo has made the decision to no longer negotiate with Nigel Fergusson and the current management of AVZ. They are unhappy with the aggressive approach taken by Fergusson in disputes relating to the DATHCOM joint venture. This attitude is seen as a lack of respect towards local partners and the Congolese people.

Furthermore, this attitude led to the loss of the mining title which would have allowed the project to proceed to the exploitation stage.

However, there is new optimism around the Manono Lithium project. The Congolese government appears ready to work with new management at AVZ Minerals which will be put in place at the General Assembly in November. It is hoped that this new team will listen to the needs of DR Congo and work to resolve outstanding disputes to finally allow the project to begin.

In conclusion, the Manono Lithium project in DR Congo is experiencing obstacles due to disputes between AVZ Minerals and its partners. However, there is hope for an amicable resolution and positive progress with the arrival of new management. It remains to be hoped that all parties will be able to cooperate for the good of the project and the Congolese people.
