More than 1,800 students from schools in the Loga group, in the territory of Djugu in Ituri, are encountering enormous difficulties in continuing their studies. Indeed, the school infrastructure of several establishments was set on fire by armed groups, thus depriving teachers and students of an environment conducive to learning.
The Zaza, Linji, Gobi, Jisa primary schools, as well as the Tsé and Lita institutes, are among the institutions affected by these recurring attacks since 2019. Not only has this violence led to the death of numerous civilians, but it has also led to destruction of several villages and the burning of houses.
Faced with this disastrous situation, many schools have been relocated to the village of Bii. The students thus find themselves concentrated in two schools, which, although built with funds from the local community and a humanitarian NGO, do not offer sufficient reception capacity for all.
As a result, around 1,800 primary school students are forced to study in difficult conditions. They are spread across six classrooms in a single building at Zaza Primary School, which sometimes disrupts lessons and affects the quality of teaching.
Faced with this precarious situation, local civil society is calling on the government and its partners to take emergency measures for the construction of new school infrastructure. It is essential to guarantee access to quality education for all these students who aspire to a better future.
In conclusion, the situation of schools in the Loga group is alarming. Recurrent attacks by armed groups have caused widespread damage, jeopardizing the education of children in the region. It is imperative that concrete actions be taken to rebuild school infrastructure and allow students to benefit from an environment conducive to learning. Education is an essential pillar for the development of a country and it is our duty to do everything possible to guarantee its access to all.
