Benkirane expulsion case in Tangier: The truth behind the rumor

The Benkirane neighborhood in Tangier, Morocco, is currently at the heart of a much-talked-about eviction case. In fact, more than 800 families are fighting against the decisions to evacuate their homes. Rumor circulated that the owner of the land, a Moroccan Jew exiled in Israel, had returned and demanded the return of his property. However, the eviction proceedings are real, but the rumor in question is false.

The alleged owner, who is believed to be Jewish, has not taken any steps to recover his land. He could even be the victim of land theft himself. In reality, it was Moroccans who initiated the eviction procedures, which contradicts the rumor that the Jewish owner requested the evictions.

The situation has become tense in the Benkirane district, with residents categorically refusing to see their homes destroyed. They summoned the press to denounce this attempted expulsion and defend their rights. Residents have in their possession deeds of purchase, property titles and tax receipts, proving their legitimate right to reside in the neighborhood.

Despite the refutation of the rumor, it continues to spread, fueled by social networks and the climate of tension following the war in Gaza. However, the Tangier court decided to suspend the eviction procedures, in order to examine in more depth this case which could be linked to a new case of land spoliation.

It is important to emphasize that this affair highlights the complexity of the problem of land ownership in Morocco, where conflicts and dispossession are unfortunately frequent. This situation also raises questions about the role of rumors in the dissemination of erroneous information and the power of social networks in amplifying these rumors.

It is crucial to handle these types of cases rigorously and to guarantee citizens their fundamental rights in terms of property and housing. Let us hope that the truth will soon emerge in this Benkirane affair and that the families will be able to find security and tranquility in their homes.
