“Kamituga: the spiral of armed robberies intensifies, residents demand concrete measures to guarantee their security”

Residents of Kamituga, in the Mwenga territory of South Kivu, live in increasing fear of armed robberies plaguing their town. In recent days, several cases of theft have been reported, including that of a gold ore trader who lost all his belongings during an attack by armed individuals.

Faced with this alarming situation, the Kamituga Mineral Traders Association expressed its dissatisfaction and requested the exchange of security agents accused of passivity in protecting people and their property. The president of the association, Songa Iluba, declared his indignation towards these services supposed to ensure the security of the population, describing them as “artisanal traders and operators” or even “supporters of gold wells”.

Armed robberies have become commonplace in Kamituga, with bandits not hesitating to attack gold traders and loot their property. Recently, a 50 kg safe was stolen from the city center, leaving the population living in total insecurity.

In order to combat these criminal acts, Songa Iluba proposes holding mobile courts in Kamituga to judge all those involved in the thefts and murders targeting traders in this town. He believes that firmer measures must be taken to ensure the safety of residents and put an end to this spiral of violence.

This situation also raises the question of the effectiveness of the security forces present in Kamituga. Residents are demanding concrete measures to put an end to this wave of armed robberies and to guarantee the safety of all.

It is important to emphasize that security is a major issue in many regions of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The authorities must redouble their efforts to protect populations and fight against the impunity of criminals. The population of Kamituga is waiting for concrete actions in order to regain tranquility and security in their daily lives.
