The youth of Brazzaville are committed to a greener Congo

Article: Young people from Brazzaville are committed to a greener environment

In a strong gesture of will and mobilization, hundreds of young people from Brazzaville came together to participate in an acacia planting action. Organized by the NGO Brazzaville International Youth Leadership Forum (Bilyf), this initiative aims to strengthen the country’s vegetation cover, but also to send a strong message to world leaders gathered at the Summit on the world’s three major tropical forest basins.

Proudly wearing their green t-shirts, more than 1,000 young people traveled through the neighborhoods of the Congolese capital to reach a field located on the banks of the Congo River. On an area of almost half a hectare, they planted no less than 1,250 acacia trees. This symbolic action demonstrates the importance attached by Congolese youth to climate and environmental issues.

Précieux Massoumé, main leader of Bilyf, explains that young people wanted to leave their mark and remind leaders around the world that the issue of climate and the environment is above all a concern of young people. The objective of this action is to raise awareness of the importance of planting and to promote a greener Congo, Africa and a world.

This initiative benefits from the support of the National Afforestation and Reforestation Program (Pronar) as well as the UN. Chris Mburu, coordinator of the United Nations system in Congo, emphasizes that this mobilization of young people is part of the promotion of sustainable development goals, in particular goal 13 which concerns the fight against climate change.

Beyond its symbolism, this tree planting action aims to raise public awareness and attract the attention of summit participants to the three major tropical forest basins. Indeed, this summit will take place in Brazzaville from October 26 to 28 and constitutes an ideal opportunity to highlight environmental and climate issues.

The commitment of the youth of Brazzaville to the environment is an inspiring example of mobilization and awareness. These young citizens are aware of the importance of preserving the planet and fighting against climate change. Their action, which consists of planting acacia trees, helps to strengthen the country’s vegetation cover, protect biodiversity and promote a healthier environment for future generations.

It is encouraging to see that Congolese youth are taking the lead in defending environmental issues. These young leaders are an example to follow and their action must be praised and supported. Hopefully their commitment inspires other communities around the world to take action for a greener and more sustainable future.
