“The Kin-Elenda project in Kinshasa: $113 million disbursed for urban transformation and improvement of living conditions”

The Kinshasa multi-sectoral development and urban resilience project, known as Kin-Elenda, recently reached an important milestone in its implementation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Augustin Kabamba, responsible for evaluation at the Infrastructure Unit of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Works, revealed that an amount of nearly $113 million had already been disbursed for the project.

The first disbursement of the Kin-Elenda project was on November 8, 2021, and since then, a total of $112.5 million has been allocated for its implementation. This represents approximately 22.50% of the envelope allocated to the project. An additional $100 million is projected to be disbursed between October 2023 and June 2024.

Augustin Kabamba stressed that the Kin-Elenda project has already started to produce tangible results, contributing to the improvement of the living conditions of many people in Kinshasa. The activities launched so far are promising and new initiatives will be added in the future.

The first phase of the Kin-Elenda project aims to improve living conditions and socio-economic opportunities in targeted poor and vulnerable neighborhoods in Kinshasa. It is a multi-sectoral program that includes investments in urban infrastructure, urban management, capacity building and the promotion of social cohesion.

The project mainly focuses on the eastern and western watersheds of the N’djili River, with emphasis on the development of structuring infrastructure and local investments. It aims to gradually transform the urban environment by improving the living conditions of populations living on both sides of the N’djili River.

The success of the Kin-Elenda project is essential for the urban resilience of Kinshasa and to promote the socio-economic development of the region. The investments made will help strengthen urban planning and management capacities, reduce unemployment and promote social cohesion.

In conclusion, the Kin-Elenda project is on track to achieve its objective of urban transformation and improvement of living conditions in Kinshasa. The disbursements already made and the results obtained demonstrate the positive impact of this multi-sector project. There is still much to do, but the outlook is promising for the future of the Congolese capital.
