News: Seth Kikuni calls for the invalidation of Félix Tshisekedi’s candidacy for the 2023 presidential election
In an announcement on his Twitter account this Monday, October 23, 2023, Seth Kikuni, candidate for the presidential election and moral authority of the political party “Piste pour l’urgence”, requests from the Constitutional Court the invalidation of Félix’s candidacy Tshisekedi.
Seth Kikuni puts forward two reasons for this request for invalidation. First of all, he accuses Félix Tshisekedi of lack of quality. According to him, during the 2018 presidential election, Félix Tshisekedi was proclaimed president under the identity of Tshisekedi Tshilombo Félix. However, for the 2023 election, he filed his candidacy under another identity, namely Tshisekedi Tshilombo Félix Antoine. Seth Kikuni asserts that this goes against the principle of immutability of the name enshrined in Congolese law.
Then, Seth Kikuni accuses Félix Tshisekedi of fraud of the law. He claims that the President of the Republic signed orders under a pirate identity and corrupted everything through fraud during the elections.
Seth Kikuni concludes by emphasizing that it is up to the Constitutional Court to decide the law, because all people are equal before the law.
This request for invalidation of Félix Tshisekedi’s candidacy adds additional tension in the run-up to the 2023 presidential elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo. A decision from the Constitutional Court will be awaited to clarify the situation and guarantee a transparent and fair electoral process.
