On October 24 and 25, 2023, National Gold Day in the Democratic Republic of Congo will be held at the Salon Congo at the Pullman Grand Hôtel in Kinshasa. Under the theme “Gold, the structuring pillar of the development of the DRC”, this event will bring together stakeholders in the gold sector to reflect on ways to develop this resource and promote its role in the country’s development.
Gold is an important wealth for the Democratic Republic of Congo, and this day aims to raise awareness of its potential and to promote collaboration between different players in the sector, such as equipment manufacturers, bankers, local communities, NGOs and government institutions.
According to Prince Nyampala, one of the organizers of the event, gold brings value to the wearer, but it also represents inestimable wealth to those who have it in their basement. This is why it is essential to put in place mechanisms to take advantage of this resource and promote it across the country.
Bernadette Mpundu, coordinator of the Chamber of Mines, emphasizes that the DRC has large gold reserves and has the potential to become one of the main African producers. However, it is necessary to highlight this resource and improve the traceability of artisanal gold, in order to fight against fraud and smuggling which benefit neighboring countries.
National Gold Day therefore aims to raise awareness and revitalize the gold production and supply chain, placing emphasis on artisanal mining and addressing the challenges of export traceability.
This event constitutes an opportunity for players in the gold sector to dialogue and find common solutions to maximize the economic benefits of this precious resource.
In addition, the organizers are counting on the involvement of the Congolese government to perpetuate this reflection on Congolese gold and take the necessary measures to capture the quantity of gold which currently escapes the country.
In conclusion, National Gold Day in the Democratic Republic of Congo aims to highlight the country’s gold wealth and promote its role in economic development. This event will promote collaboration between players in the sector, raise awareness of the importance of Congolese gold and the establishment of mechanisms to ensure responsible and transparent exploitation of this precious resource.
