Historic visit: Macron expresses France’s solidarity with Israel and calls for a relaunch of the political process with the Palestinians

The conflict between Israel and Hamas continues to make international headlines. In this context, Emmanuel Macron went to Israel to meet Benjamin Netanyahu. During their meeting, the French president expressed France’s solidarity with Israel, also stressing the importance of relaunching the political process with the Palestinians.

This visit by Macron to Israel is of great importance, because it comes at a critical moment in the conflict. With a death toll of 30 French people in the recent attack, the French president described this tragedy as “a black page in our own history”. He recalled the urgency of a decisive relaunch of the political process with the Palestinians, while proposing help from the international coalition against the Islamic State to fight Hamas.

The total number of victims since the start of the conflict stands at more than 5,000, including 2,055 children.
