Financial scandal at the National Assembly: Suspicions of embezzlement shaking the institution

Suspicions of financial embezzlement in the National Assembly: a real scandal that shakes the institution

For several weeks, the National Assembly has found itself at the heart of an affair that is causing a lot of noise. Suspicions of financial embezzlement have been revealed, highlighting significant dysfunctions within the lower house of Parliament.

It was during a preparation meeting for the new budgetary exercise of the National Assembly that the alert was given. MP Abba Kabir Kamssouloum took the floor to denounce a series of unhealthy practices which would have disastrous consequences on the functioning of the institution. He accuses in particular of fictitious work and services, undue advantages, costly and complacent missions abroad as well as the engagement of activities not included in the budget.

According to an internal control report, these practices would have created a financial hole of 2.7 billion CFA francs, or more than 4 million euros, between the 2022 budget year and mid-2023. This amount represents two thirds of the budget of the National Assembly which amounts to 23 billion CFA francs, or approximately 35 million euros. This situation forced President Cavaye Yeguie Djibril to request an exceptional extension from the Head of State to ensure the functioning of the institution until the end of the current budget year.

Faced with these dysfunctions, Cavaye Yeguie Djibril formed an ad hoc committee responsible for identifying the problems and proposing solutions to prevent such situations from recurring in the future. However, the situation is all the more worrying as the President of the National Assembly, re-elected in March 2023, faces rumors of illness and fatigue. His frequent absence and withdrawal from his native village raise questions about his ability to manage the institution.

This scandal highlights the need to strengthen control and transparency mechanisms within the National Assembly. It is essential to establish rigorous procedures to avoid financial abuse and ensure responsible management of public funds. Citizens’ trust in their political representatives is at stake and it is imperative to restore this trust by taking strict measures to punish those responsible for these embezzlements.

In conclusion, the suspicions of financial embezzlement at the National Assembly are a real scandal which calls into question the integrity and management of funds within the institution. It is necessary to take firm measures to remedy these dysfunctions and guarantee absolute transparency in the use of public resources.
