Workshop on operationalizing the public health law in the DRC

From September 29 to 30, 2023, the Ministry of Health, Hygiene Prevention organized a workshop of capital importance. This event aimed to put into practice Law No. 18/035 of December 13, 2018 which sets the fundamental principles relating to the organization of Public Health in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

During this workshop, senior officials and lawyers from the Ministry of Health, Public Hygiene and Prevention met to discuss law enforcement measures and raise awareness among participants on the importance of universal health coverage and security. sanitary.

The Minister of Health, Hygiene and Prevention stressed that the integration of the principles of universal health coverage into the law constitutes a major step forward for the health system in the DRC. He also affirmed that the implementation of this system, a key promise of President Felix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, is now irreversible.

During the workshop, a roadmap was established to guide the drafting and adoption of the necessary implementing measures. This roadmap will be implemented by a technical commission responsible for its execution.

This initiative demonstrates the Congolese government’s commitment to improving access to health care for all citizens. The establishment of a universal health coverage system will ensure adequate and equitable medical care, thus contributing to improving the health and well-being of the population.

In the next steps, it is planned to finalize the development and adoption of the necessary implementing measures, in order to realize the implementation of the Public Health Law. This major breakthrough will mark an important step in improving the health system in the DRC and in achieving universal health coverage.
