The Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) of the Democratic Republic of Congo recently launched its awareness campaign ahead of the general elections in December 2023. This campaign aims to mobilize the Congolese population and encourage massive participation during these crucial elections.
Denis Kadima Kazadi, president of the CENI, stressed the importance of preparing voters to play an active role in the electoral process. He explained that the campaign aimed to inform and train voters on the legal and regulatory provisions linked to electoral operations, as well as on the conduct to be taken in polling stations and in relation to the Electronic Voting Device (DEV). .
The CENI pays particular attention to young people and women, who represent a large part of the Congolese electorate. According to the organic law governing the organization and operation of the CENI, the institution is responsible for popularizing the laws relating to the electoral and referendum process, and for coordinating the civic education campaign aimed at raising awareness among the population on electoral matters.
The president of the CENI called on civil society partners, notably popular associations, religious denominations, women’s and youth organizations, as well as the media, to mobilize for maximum voter awareness. He stressed the importance of guaranteeing quality participation and the inclusion of all categories of citizens in the electoral process.
This awareness campaign is of paramount importance to ensure the transparency and legitimacy of the December 2023 elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo. By mobilizing the population and training them on electoral issues and procedures, the CENI hopes to guarantee massive and informed participation of all Congolese citizens.
