Niger’s military junta revealed Thursday evening that ousted president Mohamed Bazoum had attempted to escape from his residence where he was being held with his family. However, the site Tchad.com, based in neighboring Chad, reported this escape attempt with the headline “Deposed president Mohamed Bazoum tried to escape, in vain.” According to information from the Niamey regime, Bazoum tried to escape to a hideout on the outskirts of Niamey, before taking helicopters belonging to a foreign power towards Nigeria. Unfortunately for him, his escape attempt failed and several of his accomplices were arrested.
