In the event of an alarm siren, a sign of imminent attacks, patients can be quickly transferred to this secure area. “We have one minute and a half to reach a protected location in the event of an alarm,” explains Dr. Franck Atlan, head of hand microsurgery in the hospital’s orthopedics department. “And again, a minute and a half is a luxury, because in areas close to Gaza, it is only thirty seconds.”
Some patients have already been moved to hospital basements, such as those in the dialysis department, which cannot be disconnected from their machines in an emergency. Here they feel safe, protected from potential attacks.
