The NGO Fondation Hirondelle recently launched an ambitious project in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Entitled “Citizen and committed media for the strengthening of democratic culture in the DRC”, this project aims to raise awareness and train the media in order to strengthen their role in building a culture of dialogue and public debate.
Funded by the European Union and lasting 24 months, this project represents a major initiative in the Congolese media landscape. Nicolas Boisent, in charge of operations at Fondation Hirondelle, underlined the importance of supporting the media in their mission of promoting democracy and transparency.
The official launch of the project took place in the presence of the Minister of Communication and Media, Patrick Muyaya, as well as representatives of the European Union and other partners involved in its implementation.
This event also marked the restart of productions by Studio Hirondelle RDC, Fondation Hirondelle media, known for their crucial role in the dissemination of reliable and balanced information.
Fondation Hirondelle, which had previously collaborated with MONUSCO for the management of Radio Okapi for more than ten years, is committed to strengthening the Congolese media landscape by promoting a free, responsible and committed press.
This project brings a glimmer of hope for democracy in the DRC, by encouraging the media to play an active role in promoting dialogue and citizen participation. Through awareness raising and training, the media will be better equipped to inform and educate the public, thereby helping to strengthen the democratic culture in the country.
By supporting the Congolese media in their mission, Fondation Hirondelle contributes to the emergence of a free and democratic society in the DRC. It is essential to recognize the crucial role of the media in promoting democratic values and combating disinformation and fake news.
By strengthening the capacities of the media and promoting a culture of dialogue, this project paves the way for a more informed, engaged and participatory Congolese society. This is a crucial step towards building a solid and lasting democracy in the DRC.
