Reconstruction work on the administrative building of the N’djili municipal house, as well as the development of two public spaces, is currently underway at a total cost of $15.3 million. This information was revealed by the Minister of Infrastructure and Public Works, Alexis Gisaro Muvunyi, during the official launch of the works in Kinshasa.
The Chinese company WIETC was chosen to carry out this work, which will extend over a period of 18 months. The cost of rebuilding the administrative building and the town square amounts to $5.4 million, while the work on Place Sainte-Thérèse will cost $9.9 million.
The project includes the construction of a new municipal house with its surrounding area, as well as the renovation of the Municipal Youth Council building. Infrastructure such as a police station, a sheltered pavilion with kiosks, a library, a Red Cross area, a cafeteria and public toilets will also be integrated into the whole.
As for Place Sainte-Thérèse, landscaping as well as sports and leisure facilities such as a main central football field with stands, training rooms, changing rooms, a multi-purpose room and a security post will be built .
The Minister of Infrastructure, Alexis Gisaro Muvunyi, stressed that this project is part of the overall “Kin-Elenda” program, which aims to modernize and make the city of Kinshasa resilient. He also indicated that this project is the result of an active partnership between the World Bank and the Democratic Republic of Congo, with an envelope of 500 million dollars for the first phase of 5 years.
The Director of Operations of the World Bank stressed that the “Kin-Elenda” project is part of the World Bank’s vision aimed at eradicating poverty and supporting projects with direct impact on the population.
Thus, this reconstruction and development work will contribute to giving a new image to the institutions of the municipality of N’djili. The revolutionary commune of N’djili is therefore preparing to put on its finest dress, with a unique communal house of its kind, combining modern architecture and high standards. This project demonstrates the Congolese government’s commitment to developing and modernizing urban infrastructure for the benefit of its citizens.
