“MONUSCO is committed to supporting women candidates in the December 2023 elections in the DRC”

MONUSCO, represented by its head of the Gender section, Mireille Affa Minzie, recently expressed its commitment to supporting women candidates in the December 2023 elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). During the launch of a media campaign aimed at encouraging voting for these women, the UN mission underlined its desire to support them throughout the electoral process.

This initiative was launched by the Minister Delegate in charge of people living with disabilities, Irène Essambo, in the presence of the head of MONUSCO, Bintou Keita, and the resident representative of UN-Women, Adama Moussa. The objective is to give women candidates a space to develop and validate their campaign messages, in order to strengthen their visibility and encourage voting in favor of their candidacy.

Mireille Affa Minzie underlined the importance of these key messages and their impact on the electoral campaign of women candidates. She is convinced that these messages will contribute to their success and help them to be elected. This is an approach aimed at strengthening the participation of women in the country’s institutions and preventing forms of violence against them.

This meeting with women candidates is the second of its kind, after a first meeting which took place on September 19 in Kinshasa. MONUSCO is determined to actively support these women and ensure that they have all the necessary resources to lead an effective and fair electoral campaign.

In conclusion, MONUSCO is resolutely committed to supporting women candidates during the December 2023 elections in the DRC. This initiative aims to strengthen their visibility, promote their candidacy and encourage voting in their favor. Through this media campaign, the UN mission intends to contribute to the participation of women in the country’s institutions and to the promotion of gender equality in Congolese politics.
