“FirstBank DRC is committed to the fight against breast cancer and mobilizes its agents to raise awareness and prevent the disease”

FirstBank DRC agents were recently made aware of the fight against breast cancer during an activity organized by the financial institution. During this occasion, Oladjide Ayeronwi, Managing Director of FirstBank DRC, underlined the importance of this approach and the bank’s commitment to preventing this disease.

According to Ayeronwi, as a financial institution, it is essential for FirstBank DRC to invest in causes that have a direct impact on communities. Breast cancer being a disease that affects millions of women around the world, as well as men to a lesser extent, the bank wishes to contribute to its fight.

Breast cancer has not only physical and emotional consequences for those affected, but also financial, with high costs related to treatment, care and loss of income due to the inability to work. That’s why FirstBank DRC is committed to supporting breast cancer screening awareness and education.

Ayeronwi urged bank employees to get involved in this fight by raising awareness among those around them and encouraging early detection. He stressed that detected early, breast cancer can be cured in more than 90% of cases.

To show the bank’s involvement in this cause, several activities will be organized as part of the Pink October campaign. This includes an awareness conference for female bank employees, a sports activity for women and a voluntary screening session for all women at FirstBank DRC.

Dr Giles Ngalamulume, doctor in charge of the Gynecology Department at Médecin de Nuit, also stressed the importance of early detection carried out by women themselves. He recalled that breast cancer is a disease that causes enormous damage, and that early detection increases the chances of successful treatment.

According to WHO statistics, around one million breast cancers are diagnosed each year worldwide, and 400,000 women die from it. In the DRC, breast cancer is known to be the deadliest among women. Despite this, less than 49% of women are screened.

FirstBank DRC is therefore committed to continuing its awareness and support in the fight against breast cancer, and invites everyone to get involved to make a difference. By raising awareness and educating those around us, we can help reduce the mortality rate from this disease and save lives.
