“Elections in the DRC: Preparations advance while Belgium gets involved”

The President of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI), Denis Kadima Kazadi, recently met with Philippe Bronchain, special envoy for the Great Lakes region at the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The objective of this meeting was to take stock of the preparations for the elections which will take place on December 20, 2023 in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

During this meeting, various topics were discussed, including the publication of electoral lists and the impressive number of candidates, as well as the question of electoral observation and communication via the media and social networks. The CENI was reassuring about its ability to put in place all the necessary mechanisms to guarantee a transparent and effective organization of these elections.

Philippe Bronchain expressed his satisfaction with the progress of preparations and underlined the importance of contacting the President of the CENI to obtain key information on the electoral process. However, he clarified that Belgium was not an election observation mission, but that it was essential for them to keep themselves informed of all relevant elements.

This meeting between the President of the CENI and the Belgian representative highlights the importance of the upcoming elections in the DRC and the attention paid by the international community to this democratic process. It is essential that these elections take place transparently and in accordance with democratic principles in order to consolidate the political stability of the country.

In conclusion, preparations for the elections of December 20, 2023 in the DRC are progressing satisfactorily, with the involvement of the Independent National Electoral Commission and the interest of international partners such as Belgium. However, we must remain vigilant and ensure that these elections take place in a climate of transparency and trust, in order to allow the Congolese people to choose their legitimate representatives and consolidate democracy in the country.
