Petroleum products crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo: the government reassures about continuity of supply

In a context of a threatened petroleum product crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the government wants to be reassuring about the continuity of fuel supplies. During the last meeting of the Council of Ministers, the Minister of Hydrocarbons, Didier Budimbu, informed the participants of the discussions with oil tankers in order to guarantee the country’s supply and allow the renewal of stocks of petroleum products.

To anticipate possible disruptions, Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde invited a working session with the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Hydrocarbons, representatives of banks and the police. The objective of this meeting was to harmonize points of view and finalize agreements between the government, the oil industry and the banks, particularly with regard to financing the shortfall planned by the government for oil tankers.

Oil operators, for their part, also raised several points during this meeting. They insisted on the need to guarantee good governance, fight against fraud and increase import volumes. By increasing volumes, oil companies believe that prices at the pump can be better controlled by the State. They also suggested optimizing the logistics of imports of petroleum products to the DRC, in particular by considering the construction of pipelines.

The Congolese government is therefore determined to ensure the continuity of fuel supplies despite the challenges encountered. Discussions are underway to find solutions and prevent a possible petroleum product crisis. The objective is to preserve price stability and avoid any disruption in the supply of fuel to the population.

It is important to note that the situation of petroleum products in the DRC is of great importance for the country’s economy, as well as for the daily life of the population. A crisis in this sector could have repercussions on the entire economy and on the lives of citizens. This is why the government is doing everything it can to guarantee continuity of supply and find sustainable solutions to improve the functioning of the oil sector in the country.

In conclusion, despite the challenges facing the oil sector of the Democratic Republic of Congo, the government affirms its determination to ensure the continued supply of fuels. Discussions are underway with oil companies and measures are being considered to strengthen governance, fight against fraud and optimize the logistics of importing petroleum products.. It is essential to preserve price stability and find sustainable solutions to guarantee the supply of fuel to the Congolese population.
